The Frist Center for the Visual Arts in downtown Nashville hosts a fabulous array of art from the region, country and world. Their exhibits rotate every six to eight weeks and their most current exhibit displays Italian fashions throughout the years. This was a great opportunity for our residents to tie in our Italian Cultural Diversity highlight for the month.

Our staff and residents from Signature Healthcare of Clarksville and Signature HealthCARE of Madison enjoyed an educational trip to the Frist Center to take in the sights and absorb the facts. Our residents and stakeholders were guided through the exhibit and shown Italian Fashion Styles that dated back to 1945. We learned about different Italian designers who included Valentino, Gucci, Dolce and Gabana, Simonetta, and others.

Our tour guides related to the different fashions because they lived in Italy and were able to give personal stories about wearing some of the fashions. We also learned about the celebrities and political figures who wore the styles.

Our residents also learned about some of the unique items used by designer Simonetta to create some fabulous pieces that included napkins, paper bags, and feathers. Another overwhelming fact we learned was that all of the displayed dresses are worth either six figures or are priceless. Our docent said the average worth of the displayed dresses is around $150,000. Whoa!

That sure did spark a lot of conversation with our residents. Unfortunately, there are no pictures of these pieces because they are so priceless and precious. The residents later enjoyed the musical sounds from “Snappy Pappy” who played music from the 40s, 50s, and 60s!

We had an exciting trip, and some of our residents enjoyed a trip through the gift shop where they grabbed a memento of the event! I want to thank Emily at the Frist Center for being such a gracious and patient hostess.

Thanks to everyone who participated!

- Ashley Graham, Regional Quality of Life Director

More than 1,000 Signature staff members registered for the recent Spirituality LearnFEST, a virtual learning conference that encouraged participants to consider the impact of spirituality, if fully activated, in a long-term care environment.

And that number doesn’t even include the many who joined in groups, in offices, breakrooms and wherever there were TVs or computers at Signature centers across 10 states to view the live broadcast. The event featured sessions that tied spirituality to numerous aspects of long-term care and health care, from clinical care to legislative involvement and the impact of spirituality in the workplace.

St. Patty’s Day at Signature Healthcare of Clarksville!

Signature Healthcare of Clarksville sure does know how to throw a party!!  Yankee Girl sang Irish inspired songs for the residents as they played their instruments and sang along to the music.  The residents were also very amused by the Leprechaun and Shamrocks that danced through the hallways of the community all day.  That Leprechaun was unlike most… She helped to decorate those that weren’t in green instead of pinching them!  Later on in the day the residents enjoyed more music from the Emerald Isle and munched on cake and green punch!  A great time was had by all!

Urban North Revs Up the Corvette Museum

Our coverage of the Urban Segment Staycations continues with a trip to the Corvette Museum by Signature Healthcare of Bowling Green, Signature Healthcare of Clarksville, Signature Healthcare of Hillcrest, and Hermitage Care and Rehab. Upon arrival to the museum, the communities were told “the story of the sinkhole”, given a brief orientation, and history. In 1994, the Corvette Museum opened and is the only facility in America dedicated to a single model of car.  The museum is also home to the One Millionth Corvette that was donated by Chevrolet. The Corvette Assembly Plant is located across the street from the museum and our residents saw a brand new Corvette leave the floor to go to it’s new home.  They clapped and cheered as the car drove off the showroom floor.  The residents learned about 70 different models of the ‘Vette, facts about the production, and checked out the videos and memorabilia.  There was a wealth of knowledge shared and the residents and staff soaked it all in.  One of our residents even got the chance to sit in the driver’s seat of one of the fancy cars!  The crew had a great time and they are hopeful to go back in September when the “Sinkhole” display is open for touring.  Maybe they’ll get a chance to take one of those ’Vettes for a whirl around the block next time!!  Doesn’t hurt to dream, right?

Signature’s Urban Segment has been highlighting different cultures since September 2014 in the Quality of Life department. Every month a country is celebrated with weekly activities representing that specific country. Staff and residents learn about the culture which includes, crafts, food, language, famous landmarks, and learning about the customs and traditions.

China was highlighted during the month of February. Urban Indiana, Urban North, and Urban South celebrated the Chinese New Year on February 19, 2015. Each community in Urban created their own version of the Chinese dragon for their celebration. The top two dragons in each sub-segment were the winners!  The residents are still talking about the celebrations held at their communities.
